INFORMATION COMMONS

The Information Commons is a state-of-the-art learning environment, which provides a unique mix of library and computing services, library material, learning and teaching resources and flexible study spaces.

1. Open 24/7

  1. Accessible by all students at any time of day or night.
  2. Support staff available until late evening every weekday (during the afternoon at weekends)
  3. You must use your Ucard at the main doors and electronic turnstiles. This is to prevent unauthorised use of the facilities and help to keep the Information Commons a safe and secure environment.

2. With over 500 PCs

With over 500 PCs (some of which can be booked in advance) and 100,000 books, the building provides more than 1300 study spaces configured to suit a variety of different learning styles.
There are:

  1. Silent study spaces, some with PCs and others laptop friendly
  2. Group study rooms which can be booked in advance by students
  3. Study spaces without PCs
  4. A ‘flexispace’ area, equipped with furniture and screens on wheels so the space can be configured to suit a variety of different needs.
  5. Soft-seating areas where students can work informally or relax
  6. Power points around the building where students can charge laptop batteries while accessing the wireless network
  7. For quick use, kiosks are also available throughout the building
  8. A business unit on each level with self-service photocopiers, printers and book issue machines.
  9. Two staffed Information Desks on Levels 0 and 1
  10. 70 seat internet café which is open 24/7 and staffed 7 days a week.
  11. Self-service book issue and return machines accessible 24/7
