Evidence You Must Have to Obtain a Visa

1. Proof that you have accepted an offer to study full-time at this university.

  1. This is your CAS number
  2. All the information about the offer you have accepted (including any money paid to us) at the University of Sheffield is on the UK Border Agency’s system.
  3. You do not need your offer letter nor a visa letter.
  4. The CAS must not be more than 6 months old.
  5. We will email you with the details to be included in the CAS. CHECK THIS CAREFULLY, especially spellings, date of birth and the name of previous qualifications. Tell us of any discrepancies or you might not get your visa.

2. Proof of sufficient funding for tuition fees, personal maintenance and the maintenance of any dependants who come with you or who will join you later.

  1. To qualify for a student visa you must have the funding detailed in “Information for New International Students

  1. If you do not have these funds you will not get a visa.
  2. Many students are refused visas because:

    - they do not have enough money OR
    - they do not show EXACTLY the documents required OR
    - the money has not been in their account for EXACTLY the time required. See Information for New International Students”

5. Application Form

  1. a completed application form for entry clearance (PBS App8) and VAF9:

  1. two passport-sized photographs
  2. the entry clearance fee in local currency

6. Originals of all documents in English (e.g. certificates, references) the University has listed in your CAS Statement. See 8 below.

7. Tuberculosis – Free Certificate

  1. In some countries, UK immigration officers require proof that applicants are free from Tuberculosis (TB). They will not grant a visa without this. Check with the visa post you will use about this and webpages:

  1. Bring this certificate (if required) in your hand luggage and to your Health Service interview.
    Under no circumstances must any inaccurate or forged document be shown. If someone advises you to do this, please do not take their advice: take
    ours!

8. Translations

If any of your original documents (above) are not in English (or Welsh) you must provide translations which meet immigration rules. See "Information for New International Students 2010-11":
