Welcome to Sheffield

Foreign Exchange Policies

1. You must start arrangements to transfer money to Britain several months before leaving for Britain (if your country operates foreign exchange restrictions).

2. If funds cannot be transferred to Sheffield, you will not be able to pay tuition fees or maintenance costs and might not be allowed to register or remain on the course.

3. As soon as an offer of a place in Sheffield is received:

  1. check what permission is needed to transfer money;
  2. obtain permission for the full amount needed;
  3. find out expiry date for permission;
  4. deposit all money needed in bank at home before the expiry date.

4. Extra expense on some courses:

Architecture and Medicine, for example, require the purchase of specialist equipment and high cost books, particularly in the first year. Where foreign exchange allowances are very strict, ask your department for written information about the extra academic-related expenses incurred.
