FINANCIAL SUPPORT AT THE UNIVERSITY FOR UK UNDERGRADUATES
1. If you have been assessed by Student Finance England or other relevant government agency for a student loan (fees or maintenance)
a. You must register your bank details so we can pay any bursary you are awarded see webpages:
www.shef.ac.uk/ssid/faq/bursaries.html
b. Your student loan will not be paid into your account until a few days after you register with the University.
- You cannot register before the date given in Registration: The Essential Guide 2012–13.
- If you are relying on your loan to pay University rent, see the following link:
www.shef.ac.uk/welcome/accommodation/payments.html
2. Bursaries for home undergraduates
- “Bursary” is another word for scholarship or grant
- Home undergraduates may be eligible for a bursary
- We contact all potentially eligible students with more information about the bursary scheme by the end of August.
- Students awarded a bursary will be notified of their bursary by the end of October 2012.
- You do not have to apply for a bursary separately. However, to be considered you must have first applied to Student Finance England (or other relevant government agency) for loans and grants using a PN1 application form or by applying on-line.
- You must be eligible for at least part of the loans and grant support to be eligible for a University Bursary (those students undertaking second degrees may find that they are not eligible for loans, grants or bursaries)
3. Hardship Fund/Access to Learning Fund
The Government provides funds to support UK students who experience exceptional financial difficulties, or legitimate, higher than average financial demands.
- Students in hardship can apply for additional financial support. See Academic Diary and Student Handbook 2012–13 (taught students).
- A limited fund is available for international students who find themselves in hardship. However students are expected to have secured adequate funds before they arrive in Sheffield.
4. Short term loans
These are available when funding is delayed or emergencies arise. Visit Student Services Information Desk (SSiD) to seek advice.
