Welcome to Sheffield

Climate

1. The British climate is so unpredictable that it is a popular topic of conversation and the subject of many jokes.

2. The temperature in Sheffield can, on rare occasions, be as high as 37oC in the height of Summer (June to August) and below freezing – though usually not so cold – in the winter months (November to March). In Spring (April to May) the temperature is about 12oC

3. You can expect snow at some stage of the winter.

4. You need to budget for substantial heating bills during the cold winter months except in Halls of Residence.

5. The British climate is famous for frequent rain and showers, so warm and rainproof clothing will be required.

6. British weather can be grey and dreary, particularly in November – March. Make sure you equip yourself with suitable clothing and footwear and try to get out and about to enjoy life in the area, even in the greyest weather. British people rarely stay home just because it´s cold or damp.

7. However, we often have glorious weather during the Spring and Summer months; fresh green leaves, flowers and blossom and milder weather are something to really look forward to!
