Biography
I joined the University of Sheffield in 2001 as a Clinical Research Lecturer in Surgical Oncology and was involved in the "Sheffield Breast Cancer Study" looking at low penetrance genes predisposing to susceptibility and severity of breast cancer. I completed my PhD and stayed with the University as Clinical Lecturer and Honorary Specialist Registrar in General Surgery till I completed my clinical training in General Surgery and Endocrine Surgery in 2009. I then did a Fellowship in Endocrine Surgery in King's College Hospital, London.
I have returned to work in Sheffield in 2010 and am currently a NIHR funded Academic Senior Clinical Lecturer from 2010.
Research Interests
My research interests are:
- Investigation of the role of Sentinel Node Biopsy in Thyroid Cancer and its application in clinical practice.
- Epidemiology and causation of Surgical Endocrine Disease (of the thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal and pancreas).
- Investigating the evidence base for the surgical management of Thyroid and Parathyroid disease and exploring new treatment strategies.
Teaching Interests
My teaching interests include teaching "Research Methodology and Critical Appraisal" for surgical traines in addition to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in General and Endocrine Surgery.
Professional activities
- Senior Clinical Lecturer in Surgical Oncology
- Consultant Endocrine Surgeon, STH
Current Projects
- Investigation of the role of "Sentinel Node Biopsy in Thyroid Cancer"
- Optimising treatment strategies in Primary Hyperparathyroidism
- Low penetrance genes in Thyroid Cancer Susceptibility
