Biography
I qualified as an Orthoptist in 2003 and have practiced at several hospitals including Moorfields Eye Hospital and The Royal Hallamshire Hospital in the UK and in the Kwazulu Natal region of South Africa. In 2008 I completed my PhD which explored the effects of profound congenital deafness on the visual system. Since 2008 I have been a lecturer in Orthoptics and enjoy teaching a broad range of topics for the B.Med.Sci Orthoptics degree.
Research Interests
My research interests include adaptations of and plasticity within the visual system. So far I have investigated these plasticities in response to profound deafness, autism and visual vertigo. I am very interested in the development of the vision and particularly peripheral vision.
Teaching Interests
My teaching interests are in the development of the visual system, particularly in regard to abnormal retinal correspondence and the aetiology and treatment of amblyopia.
Current projects
- Peripheral vision in visual vertigo
- Fixation stability in congenitally and profoundly deaf adults
- Neural correlates of retinal nerve fibre layer distributions
