Career History
Philippa is a Research Associate in the Academic Unit of Supportive Care, University of Sheffield, based at Sykes House.
Philippa has a BA (Hons) in Classics from Durham University and an MA in Local History, Literature and Cultural Tradition from Sheffield University. She trained as an RGN in Sheffield, and has around twenty years nursing experience in a range of specialities, including HIV/AIDS care and oncology. She also has several years experience teaching on a range of health-based courses in Further and Higher Education.
Alongside her research work, Philippa also works at the Cavendish Centre for Cancer Care, a local Sheffield charity which offers support and a range of complementary therapies to those affected by cancer.
Research
Research work within the department has focused on service evaluation work, including work on an evaluation of the Macmillan GP Clinical Facilitator project in Powys, Wales, an evaluation of the North Trent Cancer Network Education Programme for Community/District Nurses and an evaluation of the Sheffield Variable Intensity Palliative Care Scheme. She is currently working on a national survey of supportive and palliative care for adults with cancer within GP practices in the UK.
