Thoughts of a Kenyan Student

My name is Ketul Shah and I am an international student here at the University of Sheffield. My home country is Kenya but I am of Indian origin hence I am a Hindu. I am here at the University to study Aerospace Engineering.

I was very excited to be coming to the UK to study at such a prestigious University. I had filled in all the necessary forms for the University and was waiting for my results to find out whether I was "in" or "out."

The day of my A level results finally came and I went to my school to collect my results. To my delight, and my mother's excitement, I had managed to score four A's. Everybody was so happy on hearing that I would be going to University especially because I am the first within the family to do so.

So finally, all having gone well, I was at the airport waiting for my boarding time and spending a few moments with my family to say my last goodbyes. Almost before I realised it, I was in Sheffield on a Sunday morning at Tapton Hall of Residence.

The welcome I received was very warm because there were second year students who helped me with my luggage and one of them led the way to my room. I was so glad that I was allocated that room because it has everything that I need as a student.

From the next morning, I got busy with the hundreds of activities that were available for Intro Week, including registration, which went very smoothly. Everything was so well organised and just the thought of being there made me happy.

In general, from my experiences so far, having been in Sheffield for six weeks now, Sheffield is a very vibrant city which is always "alive". The night life here is wonderful because the place is swarming with students from everywhere in the world just. I am so glad that Sheffield was my firm choice on my application form.
