Postgraduate Open Days

We offer a variety of ways for prospective postgraduate students to visit us.

If you are considering studying for a Masters here at Sheffield, your best option is to attend one of our University-wide Postgraduate Open Days. We run two events per year in November and February. The next event will take place during the autumn semester 2010. The open day provides an excellent opportunity for you to find out more about the course you are interested in, relevant funding opportunities, how to apply, and to take a look at our excellent facilities for Masters students. You'll find an example programme at the bottom of this page.

Alternatively, if you want to find out about studying at MPhil/PhD level, or you have missed our University-wide Postgraduate Open Day for this year, please book onto one of our Postgraduate visit afternoons. Programme

Below you will find a brief programme for our 2009/10 University-wide Postgraduate Open Day. The programme for our future events will be similar. You can download a detailed version of the programme on the right of this page.

Open Day Exhibition

Opening times
10.00am until 3.30pm and visitors are welcome to drop in at any time, although the departmental visits normally take place at 2pm.

You are welcome to visit a number of stands based in Firth Hall and staffed by University representatives.

These include:

  • USport - who manage all of the University of Sheffield's sports facilities
  • FMD - the Facilities Management Directorate, who provide the facilities to ensure that University buildings operate effectively
  • CiCS - Corporate Information and Computing Services, who manage the computing resources and information facilities in the University

You are invited to listen to a range of talks taking place in Firth Hall on many of the issues that will affect you as a Postgraduate student.

Campus Tours

Your chance to have a look around the campus guided by a current postgraduate student.

Tours will run 10.30am - 2.00pm from the main exhibition in Firth Hall.

Departmental visits

At 2pm, you will be encouraged to visit the department of your choice where you will be able to have a tour of the facilities and meet academics and students. Details on the location of talks can be found on the downloadable programme on the right-hand side of this page.
