Careers and Placement

careers

A postgraduate degree in Philosophy can be useful in pursuing many careers, because many employers will value the evidence of independent thought and capacity for research that such a degree provides.

It is important that those who hope to make a career out of philosophy should be thinking about their CV from the start of their graduate work - in terms of choice of a range of courses, obtaining teaching experience, and publishing papers. The Department has a Postgraduate Careers Officer, who handles placement. Recent graduates have obtained positions at the Universities of Aberdeen, Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Cardiff, Cork, East Anglia, Edinburgh, Essex, Hong Kong, Keele, Kent, Leeds, Liverpool, Macquarie (Australia), Manchester, Manitoba (Canada), Minas Gerais (Brazil), Nottingham, Open, Sheffield, Stirling, Trinity College Dublin and UNAM (Mexico).

The information given here is as complete, accurate and up to date as we have been able to make it. Any corrections or updates gratefully received. Please send to: j.lenman@sheffield.ac.uk
