PhD vacancies

Applications are invited for postgraduate research leading to a PhD in the Department of Physics and Astronomy for entry in October 2011.

We have highly active research groups in a wide range of areas and have an international reputation for the quality of our research (grade 5 in the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise). Current PhD vacancies can be found by clicking on the research area headings below:

Electronic and Photonic Molecular Materials

Particle Physics (ATLAS experiment at CERN, dark matter, neutrino physics) and particle astrophysics

Polymer Physics

Semiconductor Physics (semiconductor nanostructures, photonics, advanced lasers)

British citizens are eligible for fully-funded EPSRC and PPARC awards covering maintenance and university fees. In addition, there may also be other awards, e.g Dorothy Hodgkin Postgraduate Awards, University scholarships and White Rose Awards, available to overseas applicants. Self-supported applicants are also welcome.

In addition we occasionally have fully funded PhD places for applicants from EU countries as well as British students. Any funded and available positions are listed below:
