The Hicks observatory
All undergraduate observation projects should be supervised by a member of the academic staff. The academic supervisor will highlight the emergency procedures to all students before observations commence.
Students are not allowed to go beyond the fencing.
The observatory is not to be used if wind conditions are too severe. This is at the discretion of the member of staff who is supervising.
External lights which light up the walkway are available (switches are just inside the roof entrance and in the observatory).
Care must be taken walking on the roof in the dark especially when the external lights are switched off. Take extra care around the expansion joint just before the observatory.
There is an emergency exit provided at the main building end of the fenced walkway as well as the usual entrance/exit route.
