Recruiting a Student on Placement
A degree with Employment Experience offers undergraduate students at the University of Sheffield the opportunity to undertake a one year work placement after their penultimate year of study.
Timescales
Advertising placements to students
- Students will be returning from the summer vacation in late September and placement opportunities will be advertised via our online vacancy system from this time onwards.
- We will continue to advertise placement opportunities throughout the year, although ideally all placements should be arranged by May at the latest.
Length of placement
- Placements can commence any time from late June - September for a minimum of 38 weeks although a full 12 months is ideal
- Students can choose to do two 6 month placements, please speak to Claire Brooke, Student Placement Officer if you are interested in offering a 6 month placement. She may be contacted on tel: 0114 2220962 or by email:

Salary
Students will need to be paid a salary during the placement year. Guidance on appropriate salary levels is available from the Student Placement Officer. If your organisation is unable to pay a salary during the year, please contact Claire Brooke, Student Placement Officer to discuss alternative solutions.
Contract of Employment
Upon offering the successful student a placement we will require you to issue the student with a contract of employment detailing the terms and conditions of the student´s employment.
Placement Agreement
You will be required to complete a placement agreement, this is a three way agreement between your organisation, the student and the University.
Health and Safety
Prior to the placement commencing we will require you to complete a Health and Safety questionnaire. Placements cannot commence until we receive a satisfactorily completed Health and Safety questionnaire and the associated documentation.

Employing an International (non-EU) student on placement
The University of Sheffield's named "Degrees with Employment Experience / Year in Industry" have approved placements as part of the degree programme enabling international students to undertake a placement year.
