Taught Masters: Course Assessment
To complete the MA successfully, students must earn a total of 180 credits. Core and option modules count for 30 credits each, and core modules on one course may, subject to availability, be taken as options for the other MA courses.
Candidates who are awarded 120 credits are eligible for the award of a Graduate Diploma.
The taught element of each course takes place from September to June; the rest of the year is devoted to the preparation of the dissertation.
Assessment on the taught element of the course is continuous. This normally comes in the form of two essays per module, essay one 2,500, essay two 3,500 (weighted at 40/60%).
To earn the 30 credits available on each taught module students must achieve an average mark of 50% or above over the two essays. The pass mark for the Dissertation is also 50%. There are no examinations on the MAs.
