Applying for Undergraduate Studies
Applications for full-time degree courses must be made though UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) between 1 September and 15 January.

If you are still at school or college in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, you can obtain an application form and the UCAS Handbook from your teacher or principal.
If you have left school, or are living abroad, you can obtain a hard-copy Handbook and application form by writing to:

Completing your UCAS form
When considering applications to study Politics at the University of Sheffield, we look at all the information available from the UCAS form, including the personal statements. We are trying to gauge academic potential and suitability for the course that has been applied for and the personal statement often give some insight, although it is usually implicit.
There is no one thing that we are looking for, and it is important that your personal statement honestly reflects your achievements and interests. However, there are some fairly straightforward aspects that we would hope to be reflected in a personal statement.
- Interest in politics in general. This may be indicated by some sort of work or voluntary activity, membership of a group or organization which is engaged in (broadly defined) political action, or books or periodicals which you have read and which relate to some area of politics.
- Enthusiasm for the course (or courses) for which you have applied. As you may be applying through UCAS for different courses at different Universities, we recognise that you can't be too specific, but we should be able to understand why you are interested in the general field of study.
