Our excellence in teaching
As well as being world-leading researchers, our academics take great pride in their teaching. The Department scored exceptionally highly for teaching in the 2011 National Student Survey. A number of our academics have been formally recognised for the high standard of their teaching, and have received awards to celebrate their achievements:

Professor Ian Bache won a University Senate Award for Sustained Excellence in Teaching and Learning in 2008. This came with a small amount of money, which he used to research the expectations and experience of international students coming to study in the UK. Professor Bache currently serves as University Director for Learning and Teaching (Internationalisation). |

Dr Garrett Brown was awarded a Senate Award for Teaching Excellence in the category 'Rising Star' at the University of Sheffield in 2009. He was also awarded the Departmental Outstanding Teaching Award from the London School of Economics and Political Science for the years 2004, 2005 and 2006. |

Professor Matthew Flinders won the Union Award for Teaching in 2010. |

Dr Inanna Hamati-Ataya received a Teaching Excellence Award from the American University of Beirut in 2010. |
