Scholarships - help with your costs

Scholarships from both the University of Sheffield and external sources are available for new postgraduates to help cover tuition fees and living expenses.

What funding opportunities are available?

Awards checklist for scholarships

Awards vary greatly. You will need to check:
  • the amount of the award
  • whether you receive a one-off payment or a series of payments throughout your studies
  • whether it covers fees
  • whether it covers part-time or full-time study
  • whether it covers Masters degrees or doctorates

Limited availability

You should bear in mind that scholarship awards are highly competitive, with many more applicants than there are awards available. You should not, therefore, rely upon success in the competitions, and should investigate all other sources of funding.

Our single-application process

The University operates a single application process for the majority of University and Research Council-funded studentships. By submitting the PhD Funding Application Form you will be considered for all the funding streams available to the University for which you are eligible.

Funded PhD projects

Many funded PhD projects are available throughout the year. These are specific research projects for which an academic supervisor has successfully gained funding. The currently available projects are advertised in the funding directory:
