PhD Student Position - Model-based registration of pre- and post-surgery brain images

Project Description

The aim of this project is to develop image registration algorithms for the challenging problem of aligning pre- and post-surgery brain images, with a special emphasis on biomechanical model-driven algorithms. Work will be wide ranging, from formulation of biomechanical modelling approaches, to development of innovative frameworks for integrating model and image data, as well as segmentation, metric computation and optimization.

The project is supported by both clinical and non-clinical collaborators in the UK and Australia.

Candidate Profile

We seek a proactive and talented PhD student, preferably holding an MEng or MSc degree, with a background in engineering, physics or computer science, having excellent computer programming skills and preferably experienced in computational image analysis and/or computational biomechanics. Specifically, the following skills will be expected:

• Knowledge and experience of computational image analysis or computational biomechanics
• Background or strong interest in Biomedical Engineering
• Programming skills in C++ and Matlab
• Proficiency in spoken and written English

Candidates should be creative, have the ability to carry out independent research and interact within an international research team. We are interested in individuals with excellent communication and leadership skills, who able to work in a multidisciplinary team and contribute to the visibility of our group in the international scientific community. The ability to interact with other disciplines is essential. The candidate will cooperate with members of the group working on related topics as well as with our collaborators at several academic institutions in the UK and Australia.

This position is open to UK and EU citizens and includes funding of tuition fees plus a tax-free starting stipend of £14,500pa.
