Minimum 2:1 honours degree in a numerate subject such as engineering, mathematics or physical sciences.

About the course

From understanding the brain to sophisticated robots for search and rescue, advances in this field are having a huge impact on our lives. This course prepares you for a career at the forefront of the discipline, in research or industry.

The course is taught by experts in control and systems engineering, computer science, electronic and electrical engineering and neuroscience. It's supported by SCENTRO, the Sheffield Centre for Robotics.

Course content

All students take modules in computational neuroscience, machine learning, adaptive intelligence and vision. If you specialise in computational intelligence you’ll also take modules in speech and modelling of natural systems. If you specialise in robotics you’ll also take modules in control, robotics and sensor fusion.

You’ll work on a major individual project based on the research interests of our staff. You may become part of a research team and the project may be in collaboration with industry.
