The University reaffirmed its position at the forefront of multi-disciplinary research in 2005, with the opening of a new £20 million North Campus, the largest research complex in the UK, home to the Kroto Institute for chemistry, and the Nanoscience and Technology Centre.

The new £5.5 million ICOSS centre is equipped to become a world-leading facility for interdisciplinary data-rich social sciences research.
