Ice Age art in Britain

Excavations by a researcher at the University of Sheffield have revealed the World's most elaborately carved cave ceiling dating to around 14,000 years old.

Despite claims that cave art would never be found in Britain due to glacial activities, two caves at Creswell Crags on the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire border have revealed in excess of 80 engraved figures in the soft limestone rock.

The art shows striking similarities to what is found in continental Europe and can be seen as one part of a Europe-wide hunter-gatherer culture.
