Good practice in grant writing

Writing a grant application is a major undertaking. This section provides some guidance and top tips that may assist you in developing a strong application that allows reviewers to better evaluate the merit of your application.

Researcher Development Programme

The Researcher Development Programme aims to help post-doctoral researchers and early career academics create and sustain the momentum needed for a successful career in research. It is a framework of development opportunities designed by, and for, research staff. The range of learning opportunities will help participants identify and apply for research funding; develop research collaborations; write independent publications; supervise PhD students; and develop their European/international research profile.

Examples of successful applications

R&IS has examples of successful applications won by researchers at the University of Sheffield. They are intended to be used as guides for good practice. R&IS has obtained the permission of the authors to use these applications, and has removed personal data. Anyone using these applications is asked to respect confidentiality of the authors, and not to share these with anyone outside of the University. If you have a request for an example of an application for a particular funder, please contact the Research Development Section.
