Claiming the cost of Wellcome Trust open access Route 1 fees
1. Confirm that the journal in which you plan to publish has a Wellcome Trust Route 1 paid open access option.
All journals published by BiomedCentral, Chemistry Central and Public Library of Science, have a paid open access option.
For all other journals search the SHERPA Romeo website. A publisher profile will be displayed, check the conditions and paid access information. Look for the wording "Articles in some journals can be made open access on payment of an additional charge".

2. Invoices requiring payment (preferred)
2.1 Complete the Wellcome Trust open access fee claim form and retain a copy for your records.

2.2 Send a copy of the invoice to the University Library as requested on the form. Your claim cannot be processed without this. Retain the original invoice.
2.3 When you receive confirmation from the University Library that your claim meets the Wellcome terms, ensure that a myPurchase requisition is raised to cover the cost.
Use the fund code quoted in the confirmation and the wording "Wellcome Open Access publication fee" for the description.
2.4 When the requisition is approved by the Research Office write the order number on the invoice and pass directly to Finance for payment in the usual way.
3. Reimbursement of a payment made by you (e.g. by corporate credit card)
3.1 Complete the Wellcome Trust open access fee claim form and retain a copy for your records.

3.2 Send a copy of the publisher's request for credit card payment to the University Library as requested on the form. Your claim cannot be processed without this.
3.3 When you receive confirmation from the University Library that your claim meets the Wellcome terms, follow your usual departmental credit card procedure to respond to the publisher's open access fee request. Use the fund code quoted in the Library confirmation.
