Library copies (print and electronic)

Print

Once any required amendments have been completed and approved by the examiners, all students must submit a final hard copy of their thesis to Research & Innovation Services for deposit in the University Library. This copy must be correctly bound as a Library copy. Students should be aware that their degree will not be awarded until a Library copy has been submitted.

Electronic

Students who registered for a research degree from the start of the 2008-09 session onwards are also required to submit an electronic copy of their final approved thesis (eThesis) to the White Rose eTheses Online server . This requirement is in addition to the requirement to submit a final hard copy for the University Library.

Students who commenced their degree prior to 2008-09 are not required to provide an eThesis, although they may do so. In agreed circumstances, an electronic version in physical format (e.g. CD or DVD) will be considered to satisfy this requirement. Further information on how to upload the final examined and awarded thesis to the White Rose eTheses Online server is available online.

Embargoing a thesis

Students are permitted to embargo their thesis under certain conditions, e.g. where there are commercial sensitivities or where it is necessary to delay access to a thesis until after publication of results. Both print and electronic theses can be embargoed. Decisions on embargoing a thesis should be taken by the student in consultation with the supervisor. Theses can be embargoed for a fixed period of time or, if circumstances demand it, indefinitely. Any embargo requirements must be indicated on the Access to Thesis form and when an eThesis is uploaded onto the White Rose eTheses Online server.
