The Knowledge Transfer Account has funded and provided resource for a number of interesting and innovative projects across the Faculties of Engineering, Science, Dentistry, Medicine and Health. This has allowed our world-leading academics to build new collaborations with industry and external partners.
Proof of Concept ProjectsProof of Concept funding and Matched Proof of Concept funding supported academic staff with the development of commercial ideas to the point at which they can engage with external collaborators and gain further investment. Brief summaries of POC projects. |
Collaborative R&D AwardsCollaborative R&D Awards offered support for short term commercially focused projects with external partners. It supported a range of activities e.g. PDRA or PhD researchers, based either at the University of seconded to external partners. |
Industrial Research SabbaticalsThe Industrial Research Sabbaticals scheme supported the two-way flow of staff between the University and its external partners, including business or public sector organisations. |
Development Hot House ProjectsThe Hot House is a team of scientists were a responsive, full-time resource for our EPSRC funded academics. Qualified to doctorate level the team offered a breadth of laboratory, industrial and project management expertise. |
Early Career Researcher SchemeThe University awarded research grants to eight of its Early Career Researchers (ECRs). The eight awards were made following a highly competitive ECR scheme across the Faculties of Science, Engineering, Medicine, Dentistry and Health. The grants allowed the researchers to act as Principal Investigators on their own research projects. |
EquipmentThe equipment call was specifically for equipment which would support the delivery of short term commercially focused projects that demonstrate the utility of our EPSRC funded research outputs to partners. |
SPARK Award"Strategic Projects to Access Research and Knowledge"SPARK Award projects, launched by the Materials KTN in collaboration with and funded by our key partners the University of Glasgow and the University of Sheffield, aimed to help UK based companies to improve their industrial performance through the increased use of technology for product and process innovation. |
Innovation AwardWe developed and ran Innovation Award schemes in the areas of ‘Building for the Future’ and ‘Assisted Living’, open to UK SMEs who had not previously worked with the University. This sector-focused approach allowed us to showcase a portfolio of new products and research expertise. |
