MPH (Management and Leadership) course details

Full-time and part-time options
The programme is offered full-time for a period of 12 months, beginning late in September. There are two 15-week semesters of taught units, followed by a dissertation completed by the following September.
UK and EU students may study part-time over 24 months, writing their dissertation during the second year of study.
Teaching
We use a mix of lectures, seminars and workshops to ensure you gain high-quality, research-informed teaching by active researchers in the areas of management and leadership in health services.
You will study alongside a group of students from the UK and other nationalities, providing a mix of experiences and backgrounds that will augment your learning experience. Some units are taught with attending students from other ScHARR courses giving you the opportunity to meet and work with a wide range of participants.
All teaching takes place in high quality purpose-built accommodation in the School or in nearby buildings.
Assessment
Assessment is by means of a range of written assignments to include essays, short answers and more structured assessments. There are no unseen examinations at present.
Dissertation
The dissertation is worth 60 credits and allows you to produce a piece of original work integrating the content of the programme and relating it to a topic of your own choice.
Master's level, Diploma and Certificate options
To obtain the award of Master of Public Health (Management and Leadership), a student must complete 180 credits. For those students that wish to study for fewer credits, a Diploma can be awarded for completion of 120 credits or a Certificate for a minimum of 60 credits.
The MPH (M&L) programme is made up from units which together amount to 120 credits, plus a 60 credit dissertation. The core units in management and leadership are compulsory, and students can study further units as options.
Please see 'course structure' for more information on the units that comprise the programme.
