Q1. What is a MOOC?

MOOC stands for 'Massive Open Online Course'. They are completely free and open for anyone to participate. 

Q2. How much time commitment is required per MOOC?

We anticipate that the ScHARR MOOCs will each require participants to invest between 4 - 5 hours of study to per week. This will mean a total of between 20 and 25 hours.

Q3. How is this MOOC being assessed?

We are still designing the content and assessment methods. We currently do not plan to set assignments but will use ongoing assessment in the form of tests (which may include peer assessment)

Q4. Will I get a certificate at the end of the MOOC?

You can expect to receive a digital certificate (PDF file) upon completion of each MOOC. Please note, completion of ScHARR MOOCs will not earn you University credits that can be transferred on to formal degree, diploma or certificate programmes.

Q5. What are the requirements for taking a MOOC?

There are no pre-requisites other than having access to a computer with an internet connection and a handful of enthusiasm. Your educational or academic background isn't important - and the MOOC may help you to develop your academic abilities and help you to decide if further study in Higher Education might be right for you.

Q6. Can I enroll on more than 1 MOOC?

Of course. You can enroll on as many ScHARR MOOCs (or as few) as you like.

Q7. When do the ScHARR MOOCs run?

The MOOCs each last 5 weeks, the first of which will be low-intensity and revolve around an introductory exercise. The MOOC course dates are as follows:

Q10. Do I need to buy any books for these courses?

No, all reading will either be provided within the MOOC content or we will link to open access texts.

Q11. How are these MOOCs taught?

The MOOCs are delivered using the coursesites platform. The courses are accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The majority of the content will be delivered asynchronously (meaning you can access it in your own time) however there may be optional ‘synchronous’ elements such as 'live' webinars which require participants to join in at specific dates/times. We will give participants plenty of notice as and when these are offered and every attempt will be made to ensure as many participants as possible are able to join these enjoyable interactive sessions.
