PLINY

Putting Life in Years (PLINY) is a randomised controlled trial and economic evaluation of a telephone befriending intervention to promote mental wellbeing in community-living older people in South Yorkshire.

Longer life is not always accompanied by health and wellbeing. Older people can become lonely, isolated and unhappy due to failing health and bereavement. This trial will evaluate whether telephone befriending services can improve wellbeing. The telephone befrinding services will be provided by vounteers working with AGE UK and the Community Network. Recruitment is due to start in May 2012.
