Biography

I trained as a psychiatric nurse and subsequently in counselling/psychotherapy. For the last 16 years I worked in a mental health counselling service. In 2000, I completed a Masters by research into professional practice at Manchester Metropolitan University conducting research to explore how clients understood their own experience of depression in the context of wider social forces and particularly social and economic division.

Current projects

• I was awarded a University of Sheffield studentship in August 2007 and my research will look at how increasing incidence/prevalence of depression might be accounted for by recent social changes.
