Looked After Children & Care Leavers Project
Working collaboratively with Sheffield Hallam University, we run various programmes throughout the year along with a range of bespoke activities. Through our activities we try to develop links with local authorities and Trusts in order to make information available about HE and about the events we run.
Examples of such events include:
- Routes into F.E.
- 2 Day summer school
- Titans community foundation programme (A collaboration between The University of Sheffield and Rother Titans Rugby Club)
- A collaborative project between Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Councils 'Get Real' Team and the Department of Sociological Studies, helping young people in the care of Rotherham who are coming up to preparing for their GCSEs.
Developments undertaken by the University include hands on outreach workshops for young people in care, developing links with regional agencies who work with young people in care, raising the awareness of support available to students from a care background and offering a care leaver bursary to students who fit the University's criteria.
Our work has received the Frank Buttle Trust Quality Mark for our commitment to supporting students from a care background. Care leavers considering coming to the University of Sheffield or are already studying here can expect;
- A dedicated Care Leaver contact who can offer tailored, individual and
sustained support throughout your time here. - Help in accessing financial help, guidance and support
- A Care Leavers non-repayable bursary
- Priority in obtaining University owned accommodation
