Research Themes

Research within SCIDR is focused under four main themes each of which are led by a member of SCIDR eminent in that field.

Society and Drylands

This theme, led by Dr. Chasca Twyman, is devoted to looking at how present-day policies and activities impact upon and are shaped by dryland environments.

Drylands of the Past

This theme, led by Prof. Mark D. Bateman, takes the longer-term perspective on drylands looking at how they have change through time.

Dryland Archaeology

This theme, led by Dr. Gianna Ayala investigates evidence for different adaptive strategies of the past local populations in

Dryland Dust Cycles

This theme, led by Dr. Robert Bryant investigates the major controls on dust emissions from empemeral lakes and basins in drylands.
