South Korean Ambassador Choo Kyu-ho visited the University of Sheffield on 23 November 2011. During a luncheon meeting hosted by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Keith Burnett, the ambassador promised his continued support for further development of the Korean Studies programme at the School of East Asian Studies (SEAS).

Congratulations to Ms Jessica Cork (MA in Advanced Japanese Studies – Distance Learning)who has been awarded the Ivan Morris Prize by the British Association for Japanese Studies for her dissertation, entitled The Lunisolar Calendar: A Sociology of Japanese Time.
Congratulations to Miss Eszter Papai, who has just been awarded the Sir Basil Blackwell Prize. This is the second year running that the prize has been awarded to a SEAS Level One BA Japanese Studies student. Well done Eszter!
20 May 2011: Dr Sarah Dauncey speaks at the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust annual Chinese Language Conference at the Royal Society.
February 2011: Dr Sarah Dauncey is awarded £25,000 from Alumni Capital Grants Fund to establish cutting edge digital language laboratory for SEAS.

The School of East Asian Studies (SEAS) is one of the largest institutions in Europe teaching and researching about East Asia. We have more than 400 students on our various programmes. White Rose East Asia Centre and Sheffield Confucius Institute

Writing In collaboration with the University of Leeds, we have established the White Rose East Asia Centre, which produces world class research and advanced research training in Japanese and Chinese studies. We also host the Sheffield Confucius Institute, which provides teaching and research into Chinese language and culture.
