The School of East Asian Studies (SEAS) is one of the largest institutions in Europe teaching and researching about East Asia. We have more than 400 students on our various programmes. Our excellence in teaching is widely acknowledged. In the 2009 National Student Survey SEAS was ranked - by students themselves - first among Asian Studies departments in the UK.

In collaboration with the University of Leeds, we have established the White Rose East Asia Centre, which produces world class research and advanced research training in Japanese and Chinese studies. We also host the Sheffield Confucius Institute, which provides teaching and research into Chinese language and culture.
