Taught postgraduate courses

The School of East Asian Studies is a centre of academic excellence for the study of contemporary Japan, Greater China and the Korean Peninsula.
Our internationally-recognised staff are specialists in East Asian business studies and economics, history and society, international relations, language and linguistics, literature, politics and political economy.
"Why is Sheffield the obvious choice?"
- Our students are at the very heart of our teaching programme and we want you to learn in a way best suited to your needs.
- We link the teaching of language and contemporary East Asia with the quality social scientific research produced by our dedicated and distinguished staff.
- Whether you are learning about Japan, Greater China, the Korean peninsula or East Asia more broadly, you will be able to tap into the new knowledge generated by the Sheffield research team.
- We are constantly striving to develop and improve. The feedback from students, external examiners and visitors helps us to achieve our goal of maintaining the highest standards.

Come and find out for yourself why the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) reports that Sheffield maintains 'a high reputation for excellence'.
The programmes on which this reputation are based are run by a team with multilingual and multicultural skills. Students, too, often bring first-hand experience of studying foreign languages and living in foreign lands.
The programmes, the people: these are what make the Sheffield reputation.
