I am thinking of taking part in research, what should I do?
If you are thinking of taking part in research there are many research studies and clinical trials taking place at the Sheffield Cancer Research Centre. Please do look at the ongoing clinical trials run by the North Trent Cancer Research Network but be aware that not everyone is able to take part in a clinical trial. The best person to discuss whether a clinical trial is the right choice for you is the doctor who is treating you. Why not ask at your next appointment?
Sheffield Cancer Research Centre is developing a Biobank of tumour tissue samples, blood, DNA and data from patients undergoing treatment for cancer.
The Biobank is due to open in early 2013.

How do I influence what research is done?
Researchers in the Sheffield Cancer Research Centre are interested in what research you think should be performed, here are some ways to influence what is going on:
- Local people have formed the North Trent Consumer Research Panel to provide input into research in the local area and nationally. Find out how to get involved.
- INVOLVE is an organisation that supports public involvement in NHS, public health and social care research.
- The National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) encourages patients and the public to get involved in research. Why not visit their web pages on Public Patient Involvement?

Where can I go to get information or my questions answered?
Patients who are being treated for cancer may have lots of questions. Unfortunately, Sheffield Cancer Research Centre does not have the resources to answer questions, but there are some good links to reliable advice on cancer. The best person to ask questions of is your doctor.
