Make a video and win £3000! Sheffield Made Us
Sheffield Made UsIn 2009 we asked students to record a film showing how their time at the University of Sheffield helped them to discover and understand the world and define the person they are today. We're pleased to announce the winning entry to the competition, which can be viewed here. It was made by Pól Gallagher - poleire on YouTube - who wins the prize of £3,000. Pól, said: "It feels amazing to have won this prize. There were some fantastic entries to this competition and I really wasn't expecting to win. The concept of my video was to emphasise the fun I've had whilst studying at the University and to do this through graphics. "This is the first time I've tried using animation on a video, and I'm glad it worked! I feel very privileged to have won." |

What did the judges like about it?
- The footsteps walking through the film subtly express the idea of a journey of learning through discovery and understanding.
- This journey concept and the question of 'how far will you go?' are woven together in the music and visuals. They tease out how success at university is built on being ambitious and stretching yourself.
- The film conveys the theme of 'to discover and understand' through the breadth of student experiences depicted, both academic and social.
- The music and pace keep you engaged, hold your attention and help to tell an original and individual story of discovering and understanding at the University of Sheffield. It is a powerful, personal reflection that has a message for everyone.
