Key Academic Skills
This module builds students´ confidence in academic writing and encourages good academic practice such as avoiding plagiarism, systematic referencing and review processes. Other topics include: comparing viewpoints, note-taking, developing arguments and summarising.
Research Project
Students develop confidence and independence by producing an extended piece of written work on a topic of their choice, related to their subject expertise or interest. Simple research will be undertaken and the project will be presented to the class using appropriate presentation techniques.
Introduction to Social Sciences
This module provides a broad introduction to the disciplines of anthropology, economics, political science, sociology, psychology, geography and history, and their role in understanding the nature of society. Students become familiar with ways of thinking and conceptual tools that facilitate critical engagement with the study of society and social issues.
Economics In An International Context
This module provides a broad introduction to the theory and practice of how markets operate and the factors influencing international trade and investment.
Mathematics and Statistics for the Social Sciences
This module aims to equip students with the essential tools to engage with the application and analysis of mathematics and statistics in a range of social science disciplines.
