Postgraduate Research Fund: exceptional need
A small discretionary fund exists to help postgraduate research students to meet unforeseeable costs associated with work that is essential for the completion of their research degree and which for personal reasons they cannot pay for themselves. It is not expected that research students in the normal course of their studies should need to access this fund.
Assistance may be provided to cover the costs of travel, accommodation, conference attendance or external courses. The fund will NOT pay for the following:
- general research expenses
- computer hardware
- books or journals
- translation from the written word
- payment for personal maintenance at home
Applications for funding should be made in consultation with your supervisor, using the form in the Downloads box on this page. Your application will be assessed on the strength and quality of the case that has been presented. The fund can only make small sums of money available, and you are more likely to receive a contribution towards costs rather than a full reimbursement.
Students whose applications have been accepted will normally receive payment after relevant receipts have been provided and (where relevant) a brief report has been received and approved by the Postgraduate Tutor.
