Biography
I started nursing in 1985 practicing in vascular and general surgery, intensive and high dependency care and joined the University in 1995 following the integration of the NHS Colleges of Health into Higher Education.
I am currently Head of Taught Studies in the School of Nursing and Midwifery. My role involves; liaison with the NHS Commissioning Groups ensuring educational delivery complements the demands placed on NHS services, development of teaching and learning approaches consistent with the quality and culture of the workforce.
My particular interests include the development of undergraduate and post graduate programmes in acute care; in particular a range of educational opportunities around the recognition and response to patient deterioration and early warning scoring systems, and research into response to patient deterioration.
Research Interests
My research interests are recognising and responding to adult patient deterioration
within an acute trust environment and track and trigger systems for detecting at risk
patients.

Professional activities
I am Chair of the National Outreach Forum for Critical Care (NOrF). This is a nationally recognised body representing clinicians on all aspects of critical care outreach and acute care with the objective of enhancing the quality of patient care. NOrF advises on and contributes to Department of Health policies, NICE and other national guidelines and regulations.
I am currently External Examiner to the Anglia Ruskin University.
I am a board member of the Regional British Association of Critical Care Nurses (BAACN)
I have consulted on several overseas projects including; Egypt, Pakistan and Gibraltar, in the areas of acute care including; training needs analysis of organisational factors that influence the education and development of nursing staff, delivery of acute care educational programmes, and evidence based practice procedure documentation
