Entry requirements for undergraduate degree courses
Entry requirements reflect the strong competition for places. In total, we offer 85 places each year (60 for our Single School courses and a further 25 for Dual School places). There are two routes of entry into the Department: conventional entry through UCAS applications, and the mature student entry.
Conventional entry route
Entry requirements are as follows:
Single honours degrees
- Sociology: 3 A levels at grades BBB
- Social Policy and Sociology: 3 A levels at grades BBB
Dual honours degrees
- Business Management and Social Policy: 3 A levels at grades ABB (B in GCSE Maths)
- English Language and Sociology: 3 A levels at grades ABB
- History and Sociology: 3 A levels at grades A(in History)AB
- Politics and Sociology: 3 A levels at grades ABB (to include Politics)
- Social Policy and Criminology: 3 A levels at grades ABB
- Sociology and Business Management: 3 A levels at grades ABB (B in GCSE Maths)

Access entry route
60 Credits overall with 45 at level 3 (30 at Merit or above and 15 at Distinction)
Mature student entry route
Applications from mature candidates are encouraged and we try to tailor our admissions procedures to meet their circumstances. Approximately one third of all students admitted to the Department are over 21. We keep a quota of places available for mature students.
