MA Vulnerabilities and Protection
Start date: September
Duration: 1 year full-time / 2 years part-time
Programme code: SCST80 (full-time), SCST81 (part-time)
About the course
The MA in Vulnerabilities and Protection is the first postgraduate programme in the UK to examine vulnerabilities, violence and protection across the life course. It draws on different disciplinary perspectives and examines national and cross-national contexts. Students will consider real-life examples and ways in which theory and policy influence and inform practice.
Course content is inspired by our cutting-edge research and reputation in international comparative social policy, sociology and social work. Topics covered include, amongst others:
- Child protection and children's rights;
- Family violence;
- Safeguarding older people.
You'll learn through a combination of lectures, tutorials, seminars, small-group work and problem solving. Following training in research methods, you will have the opportunity to specialise on a topic of interest to you through a guided independent project.
Where the MA in Vulnerabilities and Protection can take you
The course is aimed at those looking to increase their theoretical understanding of vulnerabilities, violence and protection across the life course. It is of particular value to those who wish to further their career in research, academia or policy development, or who wish to improve service delivery within statutory organisations as well as NGOs and INGOs.
