Notification of student deaths
Procedures are established within the Student Services Department to co-ordinate a University ‘response’ in the unfortunate event of a student death. This protocol is co-ordinated by the Student Support and Guidance section in Student Services.
The procedures can only operate effectively if departments ensure that Student Support and Guidance is made aware of the position in the event of the death of a current student, and your co-operation in bringing this matter to the attention of colleagues would be very much appreciated.
In the same way, should you become aware of the death of a former student, it is also extremely helpful for Student Support and Guidance to be notified, not least so that central University records can be updated, with the aim of ensuring that any circulations or mailings which are dependent on data held on the central record system do not include deceased former students, since the receipt of such correspondence can obviously cause unnecessary distress to surviving relatives.
