Corporate Information System (CIS)
The Corporate Information System (CIS) is used to record and maintain the University´s student records, which cover both personal and academic data and span the period from pre-admission through registration, progression, graduation and beyond (alumni records).
Browse access to the system is available to appropriate staff on request; students may also access and update parts of their own record via `MyRecord' on MUSE. Access (passwords, etc) for staff and initial training for the system is handled by the Department of Corporate Information and Computing Services - enquiries should be directed to the CiCS helpdesk on extension 21111 or email: helpdesk@sheffield.ac.uk
In addition to this basic training, Student Services has also developed a number of follow-up training/awareness-raising courses which are specifically intended for staff in academic departments:
1) Structure/content of student records on the student record system (CIS)
2) How to prepare files of examination results for direct uploading into the student record system
3) How to load and amend examination results for individual students on the student record system

Departmental Data on CIS
A range of local departmental data can be loaded and maintained on the Corporate Information System by departments themselves. This currently includes:
• Personal Tutee data
• Dissertation/Project supervisors
• Assessment/Examinations results (using the Departmental Assessments System - DAS)
• Module data (using the Unit Maintenance System - UMS)
Once loaded onto CIS, the student and assessment/examinations data above can also be viewed cia the Corporate Information Enquiry System (CIES) which means that all staff in a department can view the data, not just those with access and knowledge of how to use CIS.
Assessments/examinations results information down to the level of individual module components (coursework, examinations etc.) including separate examination questions can be loaded and maintained for students and for cohorts of students using the Departmental Assessments System in CIS. Once this data is loaded, it can be viewed via option 12 "Departmental Assessments" on the Student Menu in CIES.
