A Guide To Preferred Language

The University is committed to equality and diversity and the following short guide has been produced by the Equal Opportunities Advisory Group in response to queries received from time to time from members of staff and to ensure the effective implementation of the Equal Opportunities Policy. It does not attempt to cover all issues in detail and is meant to be thought-provoking and useful rather than prescriptive. The first section on Disability is intentionally more detailed than the later sections as it addresses issues of etiquette as well as language.
