Specific Learning Difficulty Assessments

If you've already been diagnosed with a Specific Learning Difficulty:

If you have already been diagnosed with a Specific Learning Difficulty (SpLD), such as dyslexia or dyspraxia, before you come to University you will be asked to provide a diagnostic assessment report undertaken by a psychologist or suitably qualified specialist teacher. This must be a full diagnostic assessment that has been carried out post-16 years.

If your assessment was carried out before the age of 16 years and you wish to apply for the Disabled Students´ Allowances, your funding body will probably ask you to be reassessed or have a top-up assessment.

You will need to contact the DDSS with a copy of your previous report and we will be happy to provide you with information about arranging another assessment.

If you think you might have a Specific Learning Difficulty:

If you think that you might have a SpLD and would like to be referred for an assessment you will need to contact the DDSS and we will be happy to provide you with information about arranging an assessment.

Funding for Assessments:

Funding for a SpLD diagnostic assessment may be provided by the University of Sheffield.

Funding is only available to students who are registered with the University of Sheffield.
