Appropriate equipment and software is usually identified and obtained during the full needs assessment process. These can include:

• ergonomic equipment- such as height adjustable desks, chairs, monitor and laptop stands, keyboards, mice and wrist rests
• computers
• large screen monitors
• scanners and printers
• recorders and portable keyboards for note taking
• digital organisers
• radio aids
• CCTVs and magnifiers

Specialist software

• magnifying software
• speech recognition
• text to speech
• scanning
• typing tutors
• mind-mapping

Loan Equipment

The Disability and Dyslexia Support Service has a small bank of equipment that can be loaned to students for short-term periods. These items include:

• Laptop computers
• Recording equipment
• Ergonomic aids
• Portable induction loops
• Portable CCTV
• APH Index Recording machines
• Minicoms
• Scanners
• Large flat-screen monitors

Loans can be provided for students who are waiting for their Disabled Students´ Allowance or where items necessary for support have not yet been received. They can also be provided to students not eligible for the Disabled Students´ Allowances.
