Students with Visual Impairments
The support that is available to students with a visual impairment may include:
- Transcription of university publications and course related material into alternative formats, e.g. Braille, large print or audio. (The University of Sheffield has links with the Regional Academic Transcription Service based in Leeds)
- Support Workers, i.e. note takers, readers, library support, etc.
- Mobility training
- Support in examinations, e.g. amanuensis (scribe), reader, extra time, exam papers in alternative formats, use of a PC with screen reading software, separate exam room
- Specialist equipment, e.g. personal computer, scanner, screen reading software, Dictaphone
- Copies of lecture notes and handouts in preferred format
- Additional library support
