Fee status assessment – reasons for a change in status

Fee status is only changed part way through a course in a small minority of cases and for a specific and limited list of reasons. It is therefore important to ensure that, to the best of your knowledge, your fee status is correct at the time you register for your course.

Reasons we CAN review your fee status part way through your course:

  1. If you or a relevant family member becomes a UK or EU national part way through your course
  2. If you or a relevant family member are a national of a country that joins the European Union part way through your course
  3. If you or a relevant family member are granted Refugee status in the UK part way through your course
  4. If you believe a mistake has been made by the University in determining your fee status

Reasons we CANNOT change your status part way through your course:

  1. If you or a family member is granted Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK for settlement purposes part way through your course
  2. If you or a family member is granted humanitarian protection but not refugee status part way through your course
  3. If you have lived in the UK for 3 years since the start of your course – residency in the UK must normally be demonstrated for 3 years before the start of your course

If you think you may need a review of your fee status

If, after reading the fee status guidance and the information above, you think your fee status may need to be reviewed, please email the Student Fees Team who will be able to advise you further. For more information on fee status please see the UK CISA website.
