Shopping Basket Challenge
By sticking to a shops basic or unbranded range you can save yourself quite a bit of money and you might not even be able to "taste the difference". By swapping branded goods for shops own brand you could save over a third on your food bill, without noticing the difference. Supermarkets marketing and branding is designed to make us think the best is the most costly. Why not swap a few of the brands you would normally buy for the economy range. Alternatively local greengrocers butchers and other small shops may be able to offer cheaper goods so don’t assume supermarket prices are always super.
To illustrate how much you can save the lovely people of the Students Advice Centre have bought two baskets of shopping. One being a basket of branded goods the other being own brand value ranges from a variety of shops. As part of National Student Money Week, they are giving you the chance to win the contents of both baskets. All you have to do is guess the cost of the value basket and the cost of the branded basket. If you want to take a look in person what's exactly in each the baskets are in your Advice Centre.
