Why is it important?
The HEAR will…
- Provide a comprehensive record of your university achievements, to accompany the degree certificate you will receive when you complete your course.
- Recognise your extra-curricular achievements and record more detailed information about your academic activities.
- Help you to identify and articulate your individual skills, so you can plan how to build on these to achieve your goals.
You will have the opportunity to view your HEAR as it grows during your time at Sheffield. It can therefore assist you in reviewing your progress and thinking about your personal development, e.g. in discussion with your personal tutor.
- Provide you with evidence of your university learning, to help you showcase your individual strengths and experiences to employers and others.
You will be able share an electronic copy of your HEAR with employers and others to provide evidence of your achievements when applying for internships, jobs or further study. You will also be issued with an ‘interim’ HEAR at various points during your degree, so you can provide evidence of verified activities before graduation.
The University will not, of course, be able to verify everything. However, employers are aware of this and will be equally interested in how you present yourselves in CVs, personal statements, portfolios and interviews.
